MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 3, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- The organizers of the annual celebration of National Women's Friendship Day are holding their second "Best Woman Friend" Contest.
Here's your chance to acknowledge a special female friend who has played an important role in your life. In 500 words or less describe why your friend should be named "Best Woman Friend 2001." Mail entries by June 30, 2001 to:

Remember to include your name, address and phone number. Photos are also gladly accepted, but cannot be returned. Your story of friendship may be shared with women nationwide in celebration of National Women's Friendship Day. The winner of the contest will receive $1,000 donated to the nonprofit women's organization of her choice.
Jacquelyn Ball Scruggs of Memphis, Tenn., was chosen the winner of the first "Best Woman Friend" contest held last year. Scruggs was nominated for this honor by her friend Mazella Flowers.
"She treats me with the utmost respect, self-sacrificing love and deep loyalty," said Flowers of her friend. "Throughout our 30-year history, Jackie has always focused on supporting and uplifting me. When my husband passed away, I was convinced that my life was buried with him. By Grace, I would have survived this devastation without Jackie. My blessing is that I didn't have to."
A check for $1,000 was given to Women in Community Service, the nonprofit women's organization of Ms. Scruggs' choosing.
National Women's Friendship Day is celebrated annually on the third Sunday in September. It was created in 1999 by Kappa Delta Sorority to encourage women everywhere to celebrate their special women friends.
