IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - October 18, 2010) - Orange County Business Council (OCBC), the leading voice of business in Orange County, has endorsed Steve Cooley for California Attorney General for the November 2 election. Cooley, a firm supporter of business issues, has a practical yet focused approach to improve California's quality of life by enforcing California's laws, aggressively prosecuting those who do harm, and ensuring the regulatory environment is fair and conducive to business.
"Steve Cooley understands the balance between business and regulations, and champions a government that is open and accountable," said Lucy Dunn, Orange County Business Council President and CEO. "His nonpartisan perspective when it comes to doing the right thing and his professional management skills are most needed in Sacramento right now. The Council is proud to support him."
Cooley, currently serving as District Attorney of Los Angeles, understands that California's unemployment crisis and the exodus of businesses from the state is an issue that affects every aspect of life in California. He believes in making job creation a top priority by reducing unreasonably burdensome regulations while prosecuting those who prey on consumers, endanger the public's health and damage our environment.
Steve has served with the Los Angeles District Attorney's office since 1973 and oversees an annual operating budget of more than $333 million while directing over 1,000 attorneys, nearly 300 investigators as well as hundreds of clerical and support personnel, who prosecute 60,000 felonies and 130,000 misdemeanors annually. A Southern California native, transparency and trust in government is a top priority for Cooley, who created the Public Integrity Division to prosecute crimes committed by politicians, government officials and dishonest lawyers.
