Cutting-Edge Technology Drives Plot of Nuclear Scientist Michael T. Gamble's Thriller

SANTA FE, NM--(Marketwire - Dec 14, 2011) - Dr. Michael T. Gamble, a former staff member at the Los Alamos National Lab in New Mexico, draws on his experiences there and his research with lasers and high-energy physics for his espionage thriller, "Zeroscape" (www.zeroscape-thebook.com).

The story features a renegade, former MIT professor Rick Adams, who is hired by the lab to design a subsystem for the most critical program the lab has administered in decades: determining the viability of a nuclear counter-weapon, a gamma ray laser, developed by a former Soviet Republic.

Rick is inveigled into a cabal of traitors whose ringleader is a brilliant psychopath with whom the professor must do battle both mentally and physically.

At the heart of the story: For whom, exactly, are the Los Alamos scientists working?

"Michael Gamble is an insider writing about one of the most interesting places on our vulnerable planet," writes New York Times No. 1 best-selling author Clifford Irving. "'Zeroscape' has indelibly altered my perception of America's nuclear weapons design epicenter."

The author paints northern New Mexico landscapes, physical and social, and describes the laboratory's security apparatus in detail.

Gamble says his novel is a cautionary tale of what could happen at any facility critical to U.S. national security.

"Senior managers at the lab must constrain their professional ambitions and government agencies must work cooperatively to ensure the security and integrity of all facilities crucial to our country's national security."
