NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Feb 18, 2014) - Velocity Technology Solutions, Inc., (Velocity), a leader in cloud application hosting for enterprise and business software, today announced that Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, one of Brooklyn's largest voluntary nonprofit teaching hospitals, has commenced full operations with Velocity Universal Cloud Services for hosting and managing its clinical and revenue application suites, Infor™ financial and HR applications, the Infor Cloverleaf Integration Suite, and managing Brookdale's IT help desk.
In September 2012, Brookdale was faced with an aging technology infrastructure that needed to be updated to support its strategic objectives, including implementation of clinical applications to achieve "meaningful use" of electronic health records as set forth in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. Brookdale selected Velocity as its partner to assist with an extremely rapid, 10-month application and infrastructure overhaul, which involved migrating 60 applications to Velocity's Universal Cloud Services.
"We knew we had an extremely complicated set of needs, so we sought a knowledgeable, experienced partner who could help us make the best use of healthcare technology to manage costs and increase the spectrum and quality of care we offer our community," said Mark E. Toney, Chief Executive Officer of Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center. "Velocity has become a trusted partner and advisor, and they've enabled us to adapt to changing healthcare requirements and regulations at a pace we could not achieve without them."
As part of its Universal Cloud Services, Velocity is providing Platform-as-a-Service for Brookdale's clinical applications, Managed Application Services for Infor Lawson and Kronos® solutions, Managed Disaster Recovery Services with guaranteed application recovery and full annual testing, and 24/7 health system-wide Level 1 and Level 2 help desk support. Velocity's service includes "how to" functional application support and unlimited upgrades to software and custom code for interfaces, reports, and workflows.
"Hospitals are under intense pressure to add capabilities to their healthcare IT systems. The demand on staff to comply with current and upcoming regulations, met with the steep costs of purchasing and implementing new IT infrastructure, is a crushing weight on health systems," said Tom Bruno, Chief Executive Officer at Velocity. "Our partnership with Brookdale will allow them to meet their fiscal and regulatory obligations, while prioritizing their focus on efforts to deliver exceptional healthcare to the community they serve."
