TUCSON, AZ--(Marketwired - Jun 23, 2014) - Sierra Tucson, an international leader in the treatment of complex, co-occurring behavioral health disorders, has announced the appointment of Dr. Phil Herschman as interim executive director. Herschman is currently the Chief Clinical Officer at CRC Health Group, parent company of Sierra Tucson.
"As the founder of CRC's Clinical Advisory Board and with 40 years of experience in the healthcare industry, Dr. Herschman brings exceptional clinical depth to further enhance Sierra Tucson's reputation for clinical excellence," said Jerry Rhodes, chief executive officer, CRC Health Group. "For more than a decade, Dr. Herschman has been an integral part of CRC, by providing clinical and operational guidance to company facilities. We are excited that he is moving into this role while we identify a more permanent candidate who can continue to support Sierra Tucson's drive for clinical excellence."
Herschman's appointment follows the departure of Stephen Fahey as Sierra Tucson's executive director who is stepping down to pursue professional opportunities elsewhere. Herschman will assume his latest position on June 23, 2014.
"Since 1983, Sierra Tucson has strived to provide compassionate care and clinical excellence. I am excited about the opportunity to join these efforts and help Sierra Tucson to continue to deliver and develop cutting edge treatment interventions for those struggling with addiction and a wide range of other complex behavioral health disorders," said Herschman. "It's an honor to be a part of a team that has created positive change in the lives of more than 27,000 patients and upwards of 70,000 family members over the past 30 years, and I look forward to continuing these traditions."
Before joining CRC in 2002, Herschman served as chief executive officer of Behavioral Health Concepts, a national mental health management company that he founded in 1993. Herschman spent eight years with Republic/OrNda Health Corporation where he developed and managed free standing psychiatric and substance hospitals. Prior to Republic, he served as regional vice president of operations for Horizon Health. He began his career as a clinical psychologist in Southern California where he practiced for 10 years.
