TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - March 31, 2016) - Canadians can get a head start on their spring cleaning by dropping off eligible electronic devices at any participating Pizza Pizza location as part of its Slices for Devices campaign. For the 13th consecutive year, Pizza Pizza is offering a free slice of pepperoni or cheese pizza to customers, in exchange for their unwanted e-waste throughout the month of April.
Pizza Pizza invites customers to drop off used small electronic devices, including smart phones, digital cameras and mp3 players in exchange for a free slice of pepperoni or cheese pizza. With the help of Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) and Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES), the devices will be responsibly recycled with the proceeds from the refurbishment process donated to Children's Miracle Network.
"Many Canadians don't know how to properly dispose of their electronics, or drop off locations are not convenient for them," said Pat Finelli, Chief Marketing Officer for Pizza Pizza. "Our Slices for Devices program makes recycling easy and accessible and it provides some incentive too. It's really a win-win-win for the environment, customers and Children's Miracle Network."
After last year's successful launch of a corporate campaign, Pizza Pizza will continue to encourage companies and schools to participate by safely recycling their large and small e-waste items, including monitors, laptops, computer towers and IT equipment. Companies and schools will receive a gift card for that can be used towards a school pizza lunch or company-wide pizza party. The gift card amount will be determined by the volume of electronic waste collected.
All traditional Pizza Pizza restaurant locations across Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia will participate in the Slices for Devices program. Since its launch in 2004, the program has diverted nearly 17,000 electronic devices from landfills.
Did you know?
- Each Canadian throws away close to 45 lbs of e-waste every year.
- While it represents only two per cent of trash in landfills, e-waste accounts for nearly 70 per cent of overall toxic waste.
- Anywhere between 80 and 85 per cent of electronic products are discarded the wrong way, ending up in landfills or incinerators, which can release harmful toxins into the air.
