IRVINE, CA--(Marketwired - June 09, 2016) - Bosch home appliances, the premier European kitchen design brand, has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with the 2016 ENERGY STAR® Emerging Technology Award for its 24-inch stainless steel and glass door refrigerators. The Emerging Technology Award is given annually to innovative technologies that meet rigorous performance criteria to reduce energy use and lower greenhouse gas emissions, without sacrificing features or functionality.
The Award for Innovative Refrigerant Systems recognizes the best available low global warming (GWP) refrigerant systems that help to protect the environment while offering additional energy savings for the consumer. Bosch was selected for its use of R600a refrigerant, a more efficient, sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to the widely-used R134a refrigerant.
"It's an honor to receive this recognition from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)," said Christofer von Nagel, president and CEO of BSH Home Appliances. "Sustainability is part of our company's DNA, and we are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the entire life cycle of our appliances, from manufacturing to performance, and recycling."
Bosch is at the forefront of this emerging technology in the U.S., which offers key environmental benefits. R600a is an eco-friendly natural gas that is exempt from the EPA's Venting Prohibition. R600a refrigeration systems offer up to 10 percent improvement in energy efficiency as well a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
"Outside the U.S., the R600a refrigerant is widely used in many countries because the economic and environmental benefits are far superior to R134a refrigerant currently used in the majority of US household refrigerators," said Manfred Staebler, vice president of government affairs for BSH Home Appliances. "BSH looks forward to continuing to innovate in this product category and provide our customers with not only the best modern European design but also highly energy efficient kitchen solutions."
Bosch currently offers 5 models with the R600a refrigerant in the U.S.: B10CB80NVB, B10CB80NVS, B10CB80NVW, B11CB50SSS and B11CB81SSS. These models are the only residential refrigerators recognized by this award and the EPA.
"Bosch's award winning refrigerators not only save consumers money with superior energy efficiency, they use an innovative refrigerant that reduces their environmental impact. EPA recognizes this new class of refrigerators with the 2016 ENERGY STAR Emerging Technology Award and looks forward to working with forward-thinking companies like Bosch in the future," said Ann Bailey, director, EPA ENERGY STAR Program, Washington, D.C..
Along with the ENERGY STAR® Emerging Technology Award, the Bosch 500 Series 24-inch Counter-Depth Bottom-Freezer (B11) has been recognized with the organization's "ENERGY STAR Most Efficient" label for three consecutive years, from 2014-2016, while the 800 Series 24-inch Glass Door Counter-Depth Bottom Freezer (B10) lineup has been certified "Most Efficient" for 2016. The full list of "Most Efficient" appliances is available on the ENERGY STAR® website: https://www.energystar.gov/productfinder/most-efficient/me-certified-refrigerators?me_type_filter=Bottom+Freezer.
The Emerging Technology Award is the latest example of Bosch's commitment to the environment. As an ENERGY STAR® partner since 2007, the brand has long been committed to water and energy efficiency through its manufacturing of efficient kitchen appliances. Bosch manufactures the most energy efficient dishwasher in the U.S., and offers ENERGY STAR® certified products in the following categories: compact laundry pair, dishwashers, refrigeration and ventilation.
