Wireless Stock News Summary

IRVINE, Calif., August 10 (PRIMEZONE) -- (www.ibchannel.com) -- USURF America, Inc. (AMEX:UAX), a provider of Fixed-Wireless Internet access products, today announced the sale of a turnkey "Quick-Cell" wireless Internet access system to a San Juan, PR-based telecommunications firm. The telecommunications firm also obtained from USURF the right to establish Quick-Cell systems in an additional 10 Puerto Rican urban centers, which is expected to occur over the next 12 months. The San Juan system is expected to be operational by the middle of September.

USURF America continues to make substantial progress in the marketing of its Quick-Cell system to the thousands of Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs), independent and other telcos, DSL providers and Internet service providers.

The Board of Directors of GoldWeb Technologies Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Consolidated Gold Win Ventures, Inc. in conjunction with VoIP Telecom, Inc. (OTCBB:VOPT), is pleased to announce substantial progress in its strategy to deploy groundbreaking (patent pending) wireless technology. GOLDWEB has granted VoIP Telecom exclusive rights to market its fast, reliable and inexpensive third generation ("3G") high-speed wireless LAN and WAN-based voice, data and multimedia systems. See news releases dated July 31 and August 4, 2000.

GOLDWEB and VoIP Telecom have signed a Memorandum of Agreement with a major Korean industrial organization -- RIFA Industrial Co. Ltd. ("RIFA") -- to deploy the technology nationwide in South Korea. Accordingly, RIFA is carrying out a feasibility study focused on converting an existing 1,500,000 ADSL Internet subscriber base to a high-speed wireless service, as well as on capturing new subscribers for that service.

ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is a service that uses existing, 2-wire, copper telephone wiring to offer a faster Internet connection than a standard dial-up connection for the delivery of high-speed data services to business and homes. The wireless Internet solution greatly reduces costs by bypassing the utilities to provide direct access at a much higher speed than ADSL. While in line with the costs for ADSL, cable modem and T-1 access, wireless Internet delivers greater bandwidth and the convenience of wireless operation.

 Phone.com (Nasdaq:PHCM)- Buy
 Marianne Wolk, Wireless Data/eCommunications

"Yesterday Phone.com announced it would acquire Software.com," said Wolk. "In buying Software.com, Phone.com has tapped into a leading provider of messaging, widely touted as the current wireless data 'killer app.' We estimate the combined company will have little overlap in its 150 customers. This provides tremendous opportunity for cross-selling and up-selling, an opportunity that is strengthened by the fact that Phone.com and Software.com have a previous working relationship with their unified messaging products."

William Blair & Company today announced that it initiated research coverage of Nextel Partners, Inc. (NXTP $31-3/8) with a Long-term Buy rating. As Nextel Communications' (NXTL $54-3/16) only affiliate, Nextel Partners receives several benefits, including access to its brand, the ability to market a nationwide presence, existing distribution relationships, the advantages of nationwide advertising, and network and phone discount agreements, according to telecommunications analyst Bill Benton.

"We expect the success experienced by Nextel with its unique product offering, including two-way radio capabilities, traditional wireless, paging and text messaging, and now data/Internet access, to transfer well into Partners' midsize and smaller markets," Benton said. The company's markets are attractive, as they are contiguous to major, operational Nextel markets and encompass relatively fewer competitors, Benton added.
