JAAKKO PÖYRY GROUP AWARDED TWO MAJOR CONSULTING PROJECTS IN VIETNAM

Soil and Water Ltd, which is a member of the Jaakko Pöyry Group’s Infrastructure & Environment business group, has been awarded the fourth stage of a project aimed at developing the fresh water, waste water and solid waste management systems of the City of Haiphong and the local organisations responsible for these sec-tors. Soil and Water Ltd was also awarded the second stage of a project for developing Vietnam’s Ministry of Trade. The main em-phasis in these projects is on institutional development and con-sulting services related thereto. With a combined value of about EUR 6 million, the projects are financed by the Ministry for For-eign Affairs of Finland. The projects will be implemented during the period 2001-2004.

The new projects will strengthen Soil and Water Ltd’s position in Vietnam and Indochina, creating possibilities for further expan-sion of the company’s activities in Asia. Soil and Water opened an office in Hanoi this spring to serve the markets in Indochina.

Soil and Water Ltd’s first assignment in Vietnam in 1977 consisted of engineering services for the Pha Rung shipyard. Since then, the company’s most important assignments in Vietnam have been the Ha-noi (1984-1997) and Haiphong (1990-2000) water and sanitation pro-jects. The company’s long-term commitment to serving the Vietnam-ese market is now bearing fruit. Apart from the above-mentioned projects, Soil and Water Ltd has also received another major as-signment in Vietnam during this year.
