New plant inaugurated -KEMIRA INCREASES PRESENCE IN CHINESE FERTILIZER MARKET

The fertilizer plant of Kemira Compound Fertiliser (KCF) was inaugurated today in Zhanjiang, P.R. China. The NPK plant has a production capacity of 200,000 tonnes per year. The capital expenditure totalled USD 17 million.

Kemira increases its presence in the fertilizer market in China through the KCF Joint Venture operation. The plant is located next to important agricultural areas and will focus on specialty crop production in the Guangdong Province and on Hainan Island.

The Chinese fertilizer market is developing fast, and demand for new programmes for balanced fertilization is increasing rapidly. The KCF plant is well placed to serve these needs and has the ability to produce fertilizer grades suitable for these programmes with high product quality. The Chinese government has confirmed their policy of highest possible self-sufficiency in agriculture and related industry.

KCF was established in 1998 as a joint venture between Guangdong Zhanhua Enterprise Group Ltd of Zhanjiang (25%), Finnfund of Finland (26%) and Kemira (49%). KCF will also operate a phosphoric acid plant based on a rent agreement.

The revamp of the production processes was based on Kemira's technology and it was carried out by Kemira Engineering.
