EMS Technologies Introduces the Complete End-To-End Emergency Response Solution

LONG BEACH, Calif., Jan. 8, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG) introduced today at the Emergency Response 2003 Exhibition & Conference, the EMS Field Response Kit. This kit was designed to provide "First Responders" and Emergency Management Personnel with portable, mobile and seamless "reach-back" communications. Through a matrix of local short and long-range communication technologies, key incident and management information will be transmitted via the Inmarsat Global Area Network to geographically separated units.

The Field Response Kit supports multiple subscriber access to different services, which are combined and compressed over a single, or multiple INMARSAT GAN 64 kbps channels in a portable, mobile or fixed environment. The communication system will support simultaneous communication services, to include multiple voice or data calls, as well as FTP connections. This capability provides "reach-back" communications to numerous levels of command and control, a variety of hub locations and server applications.

LXE Inc., an EMS Technologies company, provides an array of rugged, mobile computers and rugged handheld data collection devices to facilitate the dissemination and reporting of information necessary to enhance the "common operating picture." With the LXE Rugged Tablet PC and LXE-deployable Wi-Fi network, EMT's, fire fighters, and rescue personnel can have the same situational awareness as their counterparts in the mobile command centers and incident management centers. This wireless LAN, combined with the "reach back" capability of the EMS Field Response Kit, provides a much-needed capability for emergency response service providers.

One of the challenges in a rescue or emergency response operation is the ability to establish a secure, reliable, fast and mobile communication system at the incident scene. This allows multiple members of the team to communicate, transfer and receive data simultaneously. EMS' incident management capabilities are used on a daily basis in search and rescue centers in the USA and around the world. The incident management system is the nerve center which manages a crisis situation, and provides a secure log of all events, contact management, integrated real time data feeds for resource tracking, file management, and automated report generation at both the strategic and tactical levels.

"In coordinating the response to a disaster, one of the most difficult aspects is the effective management of the flow of data, in order to ensure all necessary information is captured and disseminated appropriately. EMS' incident management system helps coordinate that information flow, while facilitating multi-agency coordination during a disaster event," said Steve Edgett, Vice President, Emergency Management Products Group.
