Third Federal Creates $55 Million Foundation With IPO


CLEVELAND, May 14, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Kurt Karakul, a partner and member of the management team of Weston Hurd, LLP, will leave his law practice to become the first President and Director of the Third Federal Foundation, a $55 million foundation created with the launch of Third Federal's (Nasdaq:TFSL) minority public offering last month.

Karakul, a lawyer for 28 years, is a graduate of Kenyon College and Case Western Reserve School of Law. Since 1997, he has been a partner and co-chair of the Real Estate Law Section at Weston Hurd, LLP. Since 2000, he has been an adjunct professor at CWRU Law School, and from 1985 to 2006, he co-authored a real estate column in the Plain Dealer Saturday Real Estate Section.

Karakul's many volunteer activities over the years include serving as Oversight Committee Chairman for the Youth Resource Centers Project for the Cleveland Public Schools from 1986-1992. Youth Resource Centers were located in several junior high schools throughout the city to provide educational and social support systems for youth at risk.

He has received numerous awards for his law practice and volunteer work, and for the last three years has been named an Ohio Super Lawyer in real estate by Law & Politics Media, Inc. He is a past chairman of both the Young Lawyers Section and the Real Estate Section, as well as, a past trustee of the Cleveland Bar Association,

The purpose of the Third Federal Foundation is to provide financial support to charitable organizations in the communities in which Third Federal operates and to enable communities to share in the long-term growth of the company. The Foundation will also support the ongoing obligations to its communities under the Community Reinvestment Act.
