Cooley Selected as Fiduciary Counsel to Teacher Retirement System of Texas

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - July 22, 2008) - Cooley Godward Kronish announced today that Cooley partner and former SEC Commissioner Roel Campos has been selected as Fiduciary Counsel to the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), a nearly $108 billion trust fund. As Fiduciary Counsel, Campos will work directly with the TRS general counsel and provide legal counsel about compliance with fiduciary responsibilities, as well as review investment policies, provide educational training to the TRS Board of Trustees and review ethical and conflict of interest issues. Campos will receive critical support from Cooley Partner Tom Reicher, a nationally known pension investment and employee benefits lawyer, and the entire Cooley Compensation & Benefits Group.

"We on the TRS Board welcome Mr. Campos to his new assignment as Fiduciary Counsel for our system," said TRS Trustee Linus Wright. "He will play an important role in helping guide the system as we continue modernizing our investment strategies and benefits programs to better serve our members."

"I am extremely pleased to be selected as Fiduciary Counsel to advise, train and guide the fund's legal staff and its board," said Campos, who is also Partner in Charge of Cooley's Washington, DC office. "The TRS is a well-respected institutional investor and we look forward to working with them."

The TRS was recently named Public Pension Fund Investor of the Year by Institutional Investor's Alternative Investment News.
