LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - July 7, 2009) - Coming on the heels of the recently
House-passed American Clean Energy and Security Act, the national
discussion on renewable energy will move back to Nevada this August. Summit
2.0 will advance the clean energy conversation and provide critical input
into the Senate's deliberations over its energy proposals. Today United
States Senate Majority Leader and Nevada Senator Harry Reid and Center for
American Progress Action Fund President and CEO John Podesta announced
plans for the National Clean Energy Summit 2.0 to be held at the University
of Nevada, Las Vegas on Monday, August 10th.
This is a continuation of the discussion created during last year's
national summit, which was also held in Las Vegas. This year's focus: jobs.
According to a study by the Center for American Progress and University of
Massachusetts, the combination of the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act and the energy bill being considered in Congress, can generate a net
1.7 million jobs in Nevada and nationwide.
On August 10th, UNLV will host roundtable discussions with industry leaders
from Nevada and the entire nation, renowned scientists and respected policy
experts, followed by a public town hall forum and keynote address. The
distinguished guests joining Senator Reid and Mr. Podesta include former
Vice President Al Gore and energy executive T. Boone Pickens.
"With our state's vast renewable resources, there's no better place to host
this summit than Nevada," Reid said. "This event will bring the nation's
top minds to the table to continue building a vision for a sustainable
clean energy economy; one that creates jobs, fuels innovation and
investment, creates consumer savings for every American and reduces our
reliance on oil."
"The National Clean Energy Summit 2.0 comes at a crucial moment for the
nation," said Podesta. "With the economic recovery taking effect and the
recently House-passed American Clean Energy and Security Act providing a
solid blueprint for Senate action, we must continue to identify areas where
additional federal policies and bold leadership will be critical in driving
and sustaining private-sector investments in the clean energy economy. I
look forward to reuniting with this influential ensemble of leaders from
business, government, labor, nonprofits, and community groups to discuss
the architecture necessary to create millions of good jobs and lay the
foundation for long-term growth and prosperity."
The National Clean Energy Summit 2.0 is being sponsored by the Center for
American Progress Action Fund, US Senator Harry Reid and UNLV. For more
