SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwire - August 21, 2009) - With the state in its third consecutive dry
year, the "Save Our Water" public education program is educating
Californians on the importance of water conservation and easy ways to save
water at the 2009 California State Fair, which opens today at Cal Expo.
"Save Our Water" is the theme of the California Department of Water
Resources' 4,000 square-foot exhibit at the fair. Located in California
Building B, the exhibit features colorful panels describing California's
water supply, history and challenges, and offers interactive games and
activities for children. Family-friendly presentations are scheduled each
day on conservation and the importance of protecting our most precious
resource. Throughout the exhibit, the focus will be on ways to save water
both inside and outside the home.
In addition, Sept. 1 is "Save Our Water Day" at the fair. On that day, the
first 1,000 families through the gates will receive free "Save Our Water"
hats, posters, decals and shower timers. Other exciting features include
performances by Radio Disney and a special "Passport to Water Savings"
activity for children. The fair runs Aug. 21-Sept. 7.
The Save Our Water program was launched in April by the Association of
California Water Agencies (ACWA) and the Department of Water Resources in
response to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's statewide drought emergency
proclamation in February. Patterned after the successful "Flex Your Power"
public education campaign, the program aims to educate Californians about
the state's water challenges and encourage greater water conservation. For
