Investigation Discovery's Paula Zahn Lends Support to Department of Justice's 15th Anniversary Commemoration of the Violence Against Women Act

Investigation Discovery Produces Public Service Announcement Featuring Paula Zahn to Promote National Teen Dating Abuse Hotline for Premiere of ON THE CASE WITH PAULA ZAHN

SILVER SPRING, Md., Oct. 15, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- This year marks the 15th anniversary of the enactment of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and Paula Zahn, host and executive producer of Investigation Discovery's ON THE CASE WITH PAULA ZAHN, is joining the Department of Justice's campaign to commemorate this historic legislation. In recognition of VAWA's anniversary, DOJ's Office on Violence Against Women has announced a year-long effort to raise public awareness; build stronger coalitions among federal, state, local and tribal communities; and redouble the country's efforts to end domestic and dating violence, sexual assault and stalking against men, women and children.

To kick off support of the DOJ's commemorative initiatives, Zahn and Investigation Discovery have produced a public service announcement promoting the National Teen Dating Abuse Hotline at 866-331-9474 and online resources available at LoveIsRespect.org. Investigation Discovery, America's leading investigation network, will air Zahn's PSA on a regular schedule starting with primetime placement following the world premiere of ON THE CASE WITH PAULA ZAHN on Sunday, October 18 from 10-11 PM ET. Zahn will additionally support the DOJ's Office on Violence Against Women's efforts by adding her name to a growing list of public figures who are working to end violence against women, and showcasing the anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act in her outreach to audiences nationally. Throughout the year, Investigation Discovery will air Zahn's PSA promoting the National Teen Dating Abuse Hotline and online resources, commemorate the 15th anniversary of VAWA through the network's social and new media outlets, and provide an opportunity for DOJ's ongoing efforts to raise public awareness about lasting community-based solutions to ending violence against women and children.

Fifteen years ago, the hard work of dedicated advocates throughout the nation resulted in the Violence Against Women Act being signed into law on September 13, 1994. Without a doubt, VAWA would never have happened without the steadfast commitment and work of countless citizens, coalitions and community partners who worked tirelessly for this landmark legislation. VAWA recognized the severity of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking and provided federal funding to help communities in their efforts to address the needs of survivors and hold offenders accountable. The Department of Justice and its Office on Violence Against Women are marking the 15th anniversary with a renewed sense of dedication as they call upon communities, organizations, local and federal government agencies and public figures to work together to end the violence, and aid survivors.

ON THE CASE WITH PAULA ZAHN represents Paula Zahn's return to primetime television with Investigation Discovery's first original newsmagazine. In this new weekly series, Zahn steps away from the traditional anchor chair and into the field to interview the pivotal figures shaping the stories covered in ON THE CASE. Zahn weaves together the gripping details of these cases, revealing the heart of each story. Her compelling and often exclusive interviews showcase Zahn's dedication to seeking truth and justice. ON THE CASE WITH PAULA ZAHN's world premiere is Sunday, October 18 from 10-11 PM ET.
