NaturalNano Gains Patent in the Energy Sector

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Nov. 10, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NaturalNano, Inc. (OTCBB:NNAN) (Frankfurt:N3N) announced today allowance of a second patent dealing with use of its proprietary Halloysite materials in high performance energy storage devices called Ultracapacitors.

Acting CEO James Wemett said, "We expect this patent to issue early in 2010 -- this timing corresponds with efforts we are making to partner with one or more companies to develop high performance power storage capability for applications such as hybrid and pure electric vehicles."

NaturalNano's existing Ultracapacitor patent (US 7,400,490) covers use of Halloysite Nanotubes (HNTs) in electrode structures found in these energy storage devices. The newly allowed patent application goes into further detail, including use of activated carbon, conductive polymers, and carbon aerogels. Wemett continued, "We believe this next patent will position us well to target a quickly growing market segment that not only benefits our company but could be a significant contribution to the 'green' initiative."

Wemett added that "the company will have completed initial discussions with at least one of its potential partners by the end of the year and exploring additional opportunities."
