Canyon Acres' Foster Care & Adoptions Programs Near 50-Child Milestone for 2009

Services Gain Momentum During National Adoption Month

ORANGE, Calif., Nov. 23, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Canyon Acres Children and Family Services, a Southern California charity organization committed to providing homes, care, treatment and supportive services for abused, neglected and emotionally troubled children and their families, today announced that its Foster Care & Adoptions Programs are now serving nearly 50 children. Canyon Acres is one of Southern California's preeminent child placement agencies and boasts some of the region's most highly trained staff. Momentum for the Foster Care & Adoptions Programs has surged during November, which is National Adoption Month.

Canyon Acres has placed children within a range of loving home environments, all of which are ultimately geared toward finding Forever Families. They include homes in which foster parents are planning to adopt the children living with them, homes in which foster children await reunification with birth families and homes providing long-term foster care.

Canyon Acres offers a variety of support and services by highly trained, friendly and competent staff members who are passionate about finding families for children in the foster care system. Canyon Acres provides training, matching, certification, advocacy, support groups, child assessments, placement services, case management, adoption home studies, 24-hour emergency on-call services, and support to all families and children in its care.

"We work as a team, staff and foster parents alike, to provide safe, stable and loving homes for children," said Kian Clineff, Foster Care & Adoptions Director. "In these difficult economic times we understand the reluctance of expanding one's own family. That is why it is even more important to our agency that we stand behind and support our families who give so much of themselves to love and care for these very special children."

In the U.S., there are more than 500,000 children living in foster care and more than 100,000 waiting for a family who will love them and give them a permanent place to call home. Every year more than 20,000 foster children turn 18 and are expected to have the skills to take care of themselves. Within two to four years after aging out of foster care, 51 percent of former foster youth are unemployed, 40 percent are homeless, 30 percent earn incomes below the federal poverty level and 20 percent will be incarcerated.

"Canyon Acres believes every child has the right to grow up in a safe and loving home," said Clete Menke, President of Canyon Acres. "The Foster Care & Adoptions Program is one of Canyon Acres' many cutting-edge programs that deliver on our mission of providing hope, love and care to the children who need it most."
