Viking Systems' 3DHD Visualization System to be Demonstrated at Sony Event

CEO and Medical Advisor to Address Media

WESTBOROUGH, Mass., Sept. 22, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Viking Systems, Inc. (OTCBB:VKNG) announced today its Next Generation 3DHD Visualization System for use in minimally invasive surgery will be prominently featured at Sony's media event to be held September 23, 2010 at Sony's offices in New York, NY. Jed Kennedy, Viking Systems President and CEO and Gerald Andriole, M.D., Medical Advisor to Viking Systems will address the media and explain the features and benefits of the system.

To demonstrate Sony's leadership in 3D, Sony has invited key consumer and medical trade media to be among the first outside of the surgical world to see their new 3D LCD surgical display which is a key component of the Viking 3DHD Surgical Vision System and get a look at the same video a doctor may see while operating on a patient.

Jed Kennedy, Viking Systems President and CEO, will explain the Viking 3DHD Surgical Vision System and why Viking chose Sony as its display provider. Dr. Andriole, will discuss how patients and surgeons can benefit from this new technology and what increased depth perception from 3D could mean to the future of minimally invasive surgery.

Viking Systems first publicly demonstrated the "Next Generation" 3DHD camera system utilizing a prototype Sony 3DHD flat panel display in October 2009. The Company remains on target to launch its Next Generation 3DHD vision system as planned at the American College of Surgeons' Clinical Congress in Washington, D.C. in October 2010 and plans to ship systems before year end. "Nearly all laparoscopic procedures are currently performed with a 2D camera," said Jed Kennedy. "We plan to provide the surgeon with high quality 3D vision in a cost effective and flexible format. Performing complex minimally invasive procedures with a 3D vision system has the potential not only to improve the quality of care but also to reduce procedure time and therefore cost of procedures."
