LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- At the 2011 International CES in Las Vegas, Maxim Integrated Products (http://www.maxim-ic.com/) (Nasdaq:MXIM) is demonstrating a new camera platform for use in consumer home monitoring applications controlled from a downloadable Smartphone App. The camera addresses the fast growing market for new accessory products that combines the need for home monitoring with the popularity and simplicity of consumer Apps for mobile phones and tablets.

Maxim provides a complete system solution for the camera and Smartphone App to view and control the camera streaming live video over mobile 3G or WiFi internet connections to home networks. The camera platform is built around Maxim's latest H.264 Video system-on-chip (SoC); the MAX64180. The MAX64180 has a high level of integration on a single SoC combining an H.264 HD high-profile encoder, ARM processor, and necessary peripherals together with all system software required to build a consumer networked camera.
Images captured by Maxim's home monitoring camera can be viewed over the internet with a Smartphone browser or downloadable App. An entry-level home monitoring camera has an engineering bill of materials of under $30.00, enabling a new retail product category for a Smartphone accessory.
