Champion to Be Determined This Weekend in Southern Manitoba DEKALB Super League Sponsored by Monsanto

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - Jan. 12, 2012) - The DEKALB Super League will crown its 2011-2012 Champion this Saturday, January 14th at the Carman Curling Club, in Carman, Manitoba.

Sponsored by Monsanto and its DEKALB seed brand, the DEKALB Super League is a competitive curling league that runs October through January annually and features many of the top amateur, competitive curling teams in Southern Manitoba.

"Monsanto and the DEKALB seed brand is a strong supporter of curling at the national, provincial and local level and we are always looking for ways to give back to local communities and support projects or events that are important to our farm customers," said Trish Jordan, public and industry affairs director with Monsanto Canada based in Winnipeg. "The DEKALB Super League allows us to support a game that is embraced by rural communities, as well as support some of our customers and several rural curling clubs. We are happy to give back in this way."

The final weekend is divided into a competitive division and a consolation division based on the results from league play.

The Ryan Hyde team from Portage finished in 1st place with a record of 7 and 1. Together with the second place team skipped by David Hamblin of Morris who finished at 6 and 2, they will await their semi-final match-up scheduled for 1 pm on Saturday.

Their competitors will be finalized based on the winners of the quarter final games which will get underway at 10 am. Dean North of Carman will play Ryan Thompson of Miami in the 6 vs. 3 quarter final match up while Randy Neufeld of LaSalle will square off against Daryl Bachalo of Portage in the 4 vs. 5 quarter final.

The championship game will take place at 4 pm with the winner taking home the league title and a cash payout of $3,000. Last year's winner was the Randy Neufeld Team from LaSalle.

There is also a consolation division for the remaining teams that features, Rob Findlay of Carman; Team Monsanto skipped by Bob Bartley of Carman; and Tom Hyde of Portage. The consolation match ups will run at 1 pm and 4 pm.
