Windstream Introduces Disaster Recovery as a Service in Boston With a Launch Event at the Top of the Prudential Tower

Company Sets Sights on Continuing Growth in Boston

BOSTON, April 24, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Businesses of all sizes today report an increased need for enhanced disaster recovery plans that offer swift and proven recovery when a disaster strikes. To meet the demands of businesses ranging from small to large enterprise – in the Innovation District and throughout Boston – Windstream Hosted Solutions has introduced its new Disaster Recovery as a Service solution, which combines the best of replication and cloud technologies, and offers a fully hosted and managed disaster recovery solution.

On Wednesday, April 25, Windstream will formally launch the new service in Boston at an event at the Skywalk at the Prudential Tower.

Capitalizing on Windstream's existing cloud infrastructure — built upon Windstream's enterprise-class data centers, including two in the Boston area—the Windstream Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) solution provides a variety of cost-effective methods to replicate and recover critical data servers and data center infrastructure. By simplifying the disaster recovery process to speed recovery time, Windstream's Disaster Recovery as a Service replicates a customer's infrastructure and runs it in the cloud at a fraction of the cost of duplicating their production environment.

"Today's businesses are increasingly utilizing data intensive technologies, resulting in more and more data to store and back up," said Charlie Field, Windstream vice president of sales for Massachusetts.  "Our Disaster Recovery as a Service solution offers data storage, replication, and managed restoration in an affordable, efficient, and reliable manner. This level of service can be especially beneficial for the multitude of companies coming out of MIT and Harvard that rely on big data to keep their businesses running."

Disaster Recovery as a Service is Windstream's newest solution to be offered to customers in Boston. Windstream has made a number of infrastructure improvements in the region, including the installation of a Metro Ethernet point-of-presence on the top of the Prudential Tower. Windstream can offer Boston customers redundant and resilient access to the network through Fixed Wireless Access Service and can connect to Windstream's 43,000-square-foot data center in Andover. Windstream also expanded its Charlestown data center in May 2011 to deliver network-based cloud computing to businesses nationwide.

Additionally, Windstream added a G9 switch to better serve the unique voice demands of Boston customers. Windstream has the unique ability to combine data, voice, network and cloud services to truly offer Smart Solutions and Personalized Service.

By taking advantage of the economies of scale of cloud infrastructure, Windstream's solution delivers recovery times suited for mission-critical applications at a previously unachievable cost. At the same time, leveraging Windstream's data center hosting expertise allows customers to outsource both the architectural design and testing support of their disaster recovery service.

"Managed disaster recovery in the cloud can deliver protection that is better, cheaper, and faster than internal solutions," said Rob Carter, Windstream's director of managed hosted solutions. "It isn't just a matter of cost. A fully managed Disaster Recovery as a Service solution also reduces the burden of infrastructure tasks and expertise during the testing or real world enactment of disaster recovery plans on businesses."
