"May is Employee Fitness Month, and the 5K offers a terrific opportunity to promote family, fitness and fun among our shipbuilders," said Brady Goggin, HealthWaves' program coordinator. "We more than doubled participation this year and hope to continue expanding the event going forward."

Runners started at Victory Landing Park near the Virginia Advanced Shipbuilding and Carrier Integration Center (VASCIC) and proceeded north on West Avenue to 35th Street. From 35th Street they crossed over to Washington Avenue and north to 50th Street before returning to cross the finish line at Victory Landing Park.

While the run wasn't competitive by design, shipyard participation was. The NNS division that turned out the most participants was awarded the Shipbuilder 5K Challenge Cup, which this year was presented to NNS' engineering and design team. Trophies were also presented to the top three male and female finishers. The top three male runners were David Woodson, Chuck Love and Ben Harvey. The top three female runners were Amanda Tomlin, Analiza Entrikin and Melissa Tomlin.
