TORONTO and COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption Canada (DTFAC) is proud to announce the achievement of more than 100 adoptions from foster care, and the opening of a new adoption recruiter site in Ottawa.
The Foundation's child-focused adoption recruitment program, Wendy's Wonderful Kids (WWK), a signature program of the Foundation, awards grants to public and private adoption agencies to hire professionals who execute child-focused recruitment programs targeted exclusively on moving the longest waiting children from foster care into adoptive families. There are more than 30,000 children in Canada waiting to be adopted from foster care.
"As we note the benchmark of 100 WWK adoptions from foster care in Canada, we realize that so much more needs to be done," said Neil Lester, DTFAC board chair. "But based on the past years' trajectory of growth, we know we're on the right track to find homes for all of Canada's waiting children."
The Foundation also is growing its number of recruiter sites. "We're pleased to announce the opening of another adoption recruiter site in the country's capital of Ottawa," said Rita Soronen, president and CEO of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. "We're excited about the potential for recruiters in all provinces; especially those areas with the most waiting children." The Foundation launched its Wendy's Wonderful Kids program in Canada in 2006 with two sites – British Columbia and Ontario. The addition of the Ottawa site brings the total number of sites to eight, which includes two sites in Vancouver and Toronto, and one site each in Calgary, Windsor-Essex, and Halifax. Wendy's Wonderful Kids is also active in all 50 states and the District of Columbia in the United States.
