ATCO Wins Contract to Complete 7,700 Person Escondida Mining Camp in Chile

Lodging facilities will support expansion project at world's largest copper mine

SANTIAGO, CHILE--(Marketwire - Sept. 24, 2012) - Tecno Fast ATCO S.A. has been awarded a contract to build the second phase of a workforce accommodation expansion for the Escondida copper mine in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. Construction of the first phase of the project, which was awarded to Tecno Fast ATCO S.A. at the end of 2011, is expected to finish by the end of September, 2012. When both phases are complete, the 7,700 person industrial housing facility will provide sleeping accommodations, common facilities and utility infrastructure to support a mine expansion project at the world's largest copper mine.

The dormitory-style accommodations feature spacious bedrooms with adjacent shared bathrooms. Common facilities include a dining room and kitchen, a central building with medical clinic, administration offices, access hall, boot room, gymnasium and fitness centre. Site utility infrastructure includes water and sewage treatment systems, utility distribution, fire suppression systems, roads, parking lots and walkways. Construction of the workforce accommodation project is underway with completion scheduled for early 2013.

"The size and scope of this Escondida development demonstrates the mining industry's confidence in our ability to provide workforce housing in remote and rugged locations," said Harry Wilmot, President & Chief Operating Officer, ATCO Structures & Logistics.

BHP Billiton is the majority owner and operates the Escondida Mine, 1,200 km north of Santiago and 3100m above sea level. BHP Escondida awarded Tecno Fast ATCO S.A. a special safety award for working 1.6 million person hours without a lost time incident during previous construction activities at the Escondida site.
