ATCO Sustainable Communities Wins First Contract in Nova Scotia

Project to build fishing operations office facilities for Millbrook First Nation

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - April 3, 2013) - ATCO Sustainable Communities announced today that it has signed a contract with the Millbrook First Nation in Nova Scotia to design and build an office building and storage facility to replace a structure that was destroyed in a flood. The building will be used as office space by the First Nation to manage their commercial fishing operations. This is the first contract for the ATCO Sustainable Communities eastern operations office based in Ottawa, Ont.

"With more than 12 projects in northern and western Canada, we are thrilled to launch our first project on the east coast," said Boris Rassin, President, ATCO Sustainable Communities. "We look forward to building strong Aboriginal partnerships in eastern communities by providing sustainable facilities that meet their needs and reflect their heritage and culture."

The commercial fisheries office is an essential part of the Millbrook First Nation commercial fishing operation. It provides space for reception, storage and administration, as well as support to its fleet of boats and fishermen.

"It is thanks to ATCO's strong support at the project development stage and a remarkable product delivery timeframe that we can complete this project within a mandatory 51 day maximum schedule," said Chief Bob Gloade. "This project would not have been possible without the strong Millbrook-ATCO team and relationship that was developed at the early stages of discussion for this project."

ATCO Sustainable Communities combines ATCO's modern construction technology with its long history of forming successful Aboriginal partnerships to build facilities that reflect a community's cultural values while offering shorter timelines and dedicated quality control throughout the manufacturing process. By offering a turnkey solution, the company can design and build any facility a community may need ranging from offices, schools and daycare centres to residential housing, hockey arenas and retail outlets.
