The Creators of the Inc. 5000 Introduce a New Business Index Recognizing America's Enduring Job Creators -- The Build 100

72 percent of all new U.S. jobs are created by 1 percent of companies. These are the powerhouses of our economy, and they have been overlooked too long. That is why the creators of the Inc. 5000 today are introducing The Build 100: a new business index of elite firms with track records of sustained growth and agility even in tough economic times. Details on the program, and on how to verify a company's candidacy for The Build 100, can be found at www.thebuildnetwork.com/about/build-100/

New York, July 2, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- What is the only statistically significant predictor of a company's future success? It's not location, industry, or huge bursts of growth. Rigorous economic research shows the only trait shared by the healthiest U.S firms is this: sustained job growth.

The Build Network, the management enterprise founded by Inc. Magazine to help midsize companies scale, today unveiled research connecting a company's history of steady job growth to its long-term success. In conjunction, Build also announced The Build 100, a new business index recognizing those sustained-growth powerhouses that have added jobs in each of the last five years.

Inclusion in The Build 100 hinges on a company's historical workforce data and its responses to an in-depth research survey. Build has invited firms with a proven track record of job growth to verify their Build 100 candidacy at www.thebuildnetwork.com/about/build-100/. The deadline for submitting company verification and for completing The Build 100 research survey is July 15, 2013. There are no entry fees. The Build 100 will be celebrated in Build's Fall catalog and on thebuildnetwork.com.

"The Build 100 is the next great business list," said George Gendron, editor-in-chief of Inc. Magazine for 20 years and founder of the seminal Inc. 500 list. "In the 1980s and 1990s, the Inc. 500 laid the research foundation for much of what we now know about startups and early-stage ventures. Today, The Build 100 is poised to help us understand what it takes to build a company not just to last but to thrive, grow, and adapt in even the toughest economic climates."

"This is not just another ranking; The Build 100 is actually a predictive tool," said Michael Hopkins, managing director and editor-in-chief of The Build Network. "After studying 22 million organizations, our team has determined that sustained job growth is the only statistically significant predictor of future survival and continued growth. The Build 100 companies are firms to bet on, to study, and to emulate."

The Build 100 is for U.S.-based companies with a proven track record of employment growth.
