ownCloud's Latest iOS App Offers "Offline" Access to Files

Access Important Files from Anywhere Even with No Signal

Lexington, Mass., Sept. 5, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ownCloud, Inc., the company behind the world's most popular open source secure enterprise file sync and sharesoftware, announced today the release of its latest iOS app, giving business men and women the ability to work on remote files even without network access.

ownCloud server software is deployed fully on-premise - in a private cloud or on a server in the data center, integrating into existing user directories, governance processes, security, monitoring, storage and back-up tools -- becoming part of the existing infrastructure. Access to ownCloud content is provided via a web browser, desktop syncing apps for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, and mobile apps for Android and iOS mobile devices.

"Ever wanted to get on the airplane with your iPad and edit a handful of files, but were not sure how to get those files back to the server so your team could have the updates," said Matt Richards, VP Products, ownCloud. "Now, with the new updated iOS app, you can solve this problem - with offline access. Download files while you are on the network. Open them on the plane and edit them in your application of choice, making as many changes as you want. When it is all complete, save them back to the mobile app and the changes will be queued. It's that simple."

As part of offline access, the latest app automatically retries failed uploads due to a connection problem, provides information on why an upload has failed and offers options for fixing it.

With more than a million users worldwide, ownCloud offers the ease-of-use, flexibility, sophistication and security unmatched by basic consumer-grade syncing apps and third-party storage. ownCloud Enterprise Edition becomes part of the existing infrastructure because it can be deployed fully on-premise, integrating into existing user directories, governance processes, security, monitoring, storage and back-up tools. And because ownCloud is open source and open by nature, plug-in apps extend ownCloud out of the box, enabling file versioning, file sharing, external file system mounts and much more. If additional applications or capabilities are needed, enterprises can easily extend ownCloud via an enhanced application plug-in architecture, and add it to their ownCloud server.

Pricing and Availability
The iOS app is available in the Apple store today for $.99.
