Vineland's Research Programs Creating Fresh Results for Canadian Horticulture Industry

VINELAND STATION, Ontario, Feb. 18, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Researchers from Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland) will gather at this week's Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention to share the impact of current research projects on the Canadian horticultural sector.

Presentations will cover new developments in Ontario-grown sweet potato varieties and a look at the future of fruit and vegetable growing in Canada. Researchers will also discuss how the team at Vineland, along with collaborators, is working to increase storability time for fruits and vegetables, creating disease resistance in greenhouse crops, and using consumer preferences for sweetness in apples to inform product development.

"The convention allows us to share the exciting direction of our collaborative research programs and gain insight from growers for future projects," said Dr. Michael Brownbridge, Research Director, Horticultural Production Systems. "This is a wonderful time to be part of a growing and dynamic industry."

The convention takes place at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls from Wednesday, February 18 through Thursday, February 19. Vineland research updates will be presented on February 19 from 2 pm to 4 pm during an educational session and Vineland representatives will also be on the trade show floor both days to meet with leaders in the fruit and vegetable industry.
