Het bedrijfsonderdeel Specialty Chemicals van AkzoNobel liet onlangs de eerste paal slaan voor een nieuwe alkoxyleringsfabriek in Ningbo (China), waarmee de totale investering in deze strategische meervoudige productielocatie nu meer dan €400 miljoen bedraagt.
De nieuwe faciliteit versterkt niet alleen de positie van AkzoNobel als een van de belangrijkste producenten van oppervlakteactieve stoffen in China, maar creëert ook een meer duurzame voetafdruk in de regio. Daarnaast kan de onderneming dankzij deze nieuwe faciliteit haar klanten beter van dienst zijn.
Werner Fuhrmann, lid van het Executive Committee, verantwoordelijk voor Specialty Chemicals: "Onze investering in deze nieuwe fabriek bevestigt wederom onze hechte relatie met China, wat een van onze strategisch belangrijkste markten is. De nieuwe faciliteit geeft ook een extra impuls aan onze ambities voor organische groei en stelt ons in staat om onze productiecapaciteit in Azië verder uit te breiden."

"De nieuwe alkoxyleringsfabriek in Ningbo stelt ons in staat om onze klanten in deze regio beter te bedienen, wat een van onze topprioriteiten is. Het biedt ons ook de mogelijkheid om op basis van lokale productie te voldoen aan de toenemende vraag uit de markt. Door lokaal te produceren is er minder transport nodig, hebben we kortere doorlooptijden en een lagere CO2-uitstoot."
De meervoudige productiefaciliteit beslaat ongeveer 50 hectare en biedt ruimte voor de fabricage van chelaten, ethyleenamines, ethyleenoxide, organische peroxiden en Bermocoll cellulosederivaten. Deze meest recente investering van Surface Chemistry zal de jaarlijkse capaciteit verhogen met bijna 18.000 ton, voornamelijk bestemd voor de binnenlandse vraag in China.

De nieuwe faciliteit versterkt niet alleen de positie van AkzoNobel als een van de belangrijkste producenten van oppervlakteactieve stoffen in China, maar creëert ook een meer duurzame voetafdruk in de regio. De toegevoegde alkoxylatie-capaciteit (het proces waarin een vetamine reageert met ethyleenoxide om geëtthoxyleerde amines te vormen) stelt de onderneming in staat om haar klanten in de Agrochemical, Oilfield en Personal Care sectoren beter van dienst te zijn.
AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry is internationaal toonaangevend in de fabricage en levering van speciale oppervlakteactieve stoffen, synthetische en biopolymeeradditieven en speciale polymeren. AkzoNobel heeft momenteel meer dan 7.400 medewerkers in China. De onderneming behaalde in 2014 een omzet van €1,7 miljard in China.
