CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif., March 18, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Carmel Bach Festival, an immersive festival of music and ideas celebrating the works, inspiration, and ongoing influence of J.S. Bach, is hosting its second annual "Cottages, Gardens & Cantatas" Home and Garden Tour, a one-of-a-kind event celebrating hometown architecture, nature and artistic expression on May 2. The self-curated tour features five area homes, including two T.J. Murphy properties that have never been open to the public. All locations are in Carmel or on Carmel Point.
Participants can tour the five homes in any order and at their own pace between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., and learn about each location's historic elements from on-site docents as well as enjoy baroque and classical music from Carmel Bach Festival's young musicians.
Tickets to "Cottages, Gardens & Cantatas" are $35 in advance and $40 on the day of the event, and are available online at https://www.bachfestival.org/e-cottages_gardens_and_cantatas_513.htm or by phone at 831-624-1521.
On the day of the event, tickets may also be purchased at Carmel Bach Festival's office located at the corner of Mission Street and 10th Avenue in Carmel-By-The Sea. A map with details about each home will be released to ticket purchasers.

Many of us that are newer residents of the community, and those who enjoy Carmel as frequent visitors, do not typically have the opportunity to see the lovely artist cottages and larger-scale manors and gardens up close and with the added benefit of amazing musical accompaniment."
In addition to the T.J. Murphy homes, which were each built in the early 20th century, this year's tour also includes a Spanish manor house from 1925 with original architecture and tiling, and a dining room highlighting a repurposed wishing well. The remaining two homes represent a juxtaposition of old and new; participants will enjoy a modern steel-framed home of glass and stone, and a true Carmel cottage with French touches and an ocean hideaway feel.
