HOBOKEN, N.J., Sept. 1, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Society of Leadership and Success is now accepting applications for scholarships to be awarded during the fall academic semester. Eligible Society members from the organization's 500 chapters nationwide may apply online through October 31, 2015. More than 50 students will be selected as scholarship recipients from 16 merit and need-based awards.

"The cost of pursuing a college degree can be challenging for many undergraduates," said Charles Knippen, president of The National Society of Leadership and Success. "We established the Scholarships & Awards program to offer financial support where needed, to support student's efforts to achieve their dreams, and to recognize those who demonstrate dynamic leadership, a commitment to service, and member excellence. The program aims to help propel students toward achieving their potential and furthers our mission to build leaders who make a better world."

Former honorees have used their financial award to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors and make impactful contributions in their local communities and abroad. Julia Carter, a spring 2015 scholarship recipient from Pennsylvania State University – University Park used her award to travel to Panama where she was involved in critical work – from constructing greenhouses to volunteering in a medical clinic – to improve all aspects of life for Panamanian residents.

"Deciding to return to Panama with the non-profit organization, Global Brigades, has been one of the greatest decisions of my life," said Carter. "This was made possible with the help of The National Society of Leadership and Success and their Global Leader scholarship, which I was fortunate enough to receive."

The Society's Scholarships & Awards program is funded through student membership fees with two dollars from each registration being dedicated to the fund annually. Since 2001, more than $683,000 in scholarships has been awarded.

Students who wish to apply for one of the 16 awards must be active members of The National Society of Leadership and Success and must complete and submit an application online at http://bit.ly/1f5LYrS.
