Largest Gingerbread House Debuts in Downtown Toronto

What is 9 feet tall, made of sugar and spice and by everyone nice? It's Toronto's largest gingerbread house at The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto!

Even Scrooge will be impressed with this life-size version, which will be on display in the hotel's main lobby starting today.

At almost 11 feet wide and made entirely in-house by the hotel's pastry team, the Ritz-Carlton, Toronto gingerbread house took almost 500 hours to construct and is a decadent combination of 200 pounds of flour, 75 pounds of sugar, 5 pounds of spice, 60 pounds of shortening, 35 pounds of corn syrup and 12 pounds of molasses. Adorned with sugar windows and trimmed with over 250 pounds of royal icing and candy, the giant confection will surely become a favourite spot to capture holiday memories - made easier with the complimentary selfie-sticks the hotel is making available for guests to use.

But, the sweet structure isn't the only the thing the luxury downtown hotel has planned this festive season. Inspired by the beloved holiday classic, Nutcracker Tea returns to DEQ Lounge every weekend in December. Featuring themed décor and a delectable assortment of goodies, the little ones will enjoy a choice of white or hot chocolate, while adult guests can savour sparkling wine and a selection of handcrafted teas by Master Tea sommelier, Hoda Paripoush.
