Successful eHealth Forum — Sponsored by Sutherland Healthcare Solutions — Brings International Perspectives and Solutions to Local Healthcare Issues

CLIFTON, N.J., Dec. 22, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sutherland Healthcare Solutions has announced that the most recent New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) forum, “Using Health Information Technology to Improve Care – An International Dialog” delivered thought provoking insights by bringing a unique blend of global healthcare leaders and viewpoints to address healthcare’s most pressing challenges.

Held in lower Manhattan on December 3rd and sponsored by Sutherland, the forum focused on the most pressing healthcare issues facing western countries today: meeting healthcare delivery and finance challenges; building infrastructure and incentive frameworks that promote value and foster change; and using leading-edge innovation to improve market share and bring positive disruption to the healthcare industry.

“The ideas generated about the purposeful deployment of Healthcare IT in support of industry trends could not have come at a better time,” said David Klein, NYeC’s Chairman of the Board. “There was a breadth of insight brought to the table by my fellow participants – from commercial and Blues representatives to State and Federal leaders, to experts with an international profile. This was hardly a gathering of ‘the usual suspects.’”

Indeed, among the many healthcare luminaries participating in the forum were both regional and international players. In addition to Mr. Klein, the speakers and moderators included:

  • Martin Bowles, Secretary, Department of Health, Australia
  • Karen DeSalvo, MD, MPH, MSc, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, Acting Assistant Secretary of Health, US Department of Health and Human Services
  • Jean Drouin, CEO and Founder of ClarifyHealth
  • Professor Roni Gamzu, General Director, Sourasky Tel Aviv Medical Center, and Former Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Health
  • Louise Beauchesne, Executive Regional Director, Quebec & Atlantic, Canada Health Infoway
  • Thomas Laur, Chief Executive Officer, Sutherland Healthcare Solutions
  • Graham Hughes, Chief Medical Officer, Sutherland Healthcare Solutions

During the forum’s opening address, Secretary Bowles commented on how excited he is to be involved in the transformation of Australia’s healthcare landscape. “We are looking at new structures and models for funding and delivering healthcare services,” Mr. Bowles commented. “But we are also requiring improved collection, analysis of data and, above all, exchange of information across the system to drive better system performance and patient outcomes.”

Expanding on Mr. Bowles input, David Whitlinger, NYeC’s Executive Director, pointed out that the need for robust analytics and data coordination is not limited to systems that are national in scope. “Local organizations must also respond in a planned way to an evolving landscape and changing patient demands. Coordinated health IT solutions must be able to not only streamline existing front and back-end processes and improve patient outcomes, but also to lay a firm yet flexible foundation to enable the clinical, financial and process advances that are already dotting the horizon.”

Commenting on the value of putting regional, national and international experts together to share their perspectives on leveraging leading-edge Healthcare IT upside, Mr. Klein was unequivocally enthusiastic. “The diversity of thought and singlemindedness of commitment on display at this year’s forum could not have been more valuable. And I know that sentiment was shared by all my colleagues who participated in this year’s event, which Sutherland Healthcare Solutions so generously sponsored.”

The back-and-forth dialogue with the moderators, panelists, and attendees was able to bring unique perspectives that many attendees think benefited the group. “One of the best parts of this forum was bringing in industry leaders who don’t have preconceived notions about how the industry should behave,” said Mr. Laur. “When those same individuals aren’t afraid to ask tough questions to the group, then the end result is you actually create dialogue around real-world solutions to healthcare’s complex problems.”
