Participants spoke about the inefficiencies in the US system, particularly around the waste generated from Health Information Technology (HIT) projects that fail to create impact as well as the no-value care created from a Fee for Services model of medical economics. Participants noted that US policy and programs from HHS and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that focus on shifting the medical economic models to Pay for Value mechanisms are providing a path to minimize no-value and low-value care, which accounts for over $850 BB or roughly 3% of GDP. The increasing privatization of French markets and the role of universities and US government payment programs, including the release of public health data, also served as the subject of potential models for both the US and French systems.

"The US essentially has a single payer system as over 90 cents of every dollar comes from CMS, outsourced to payers and providers. Those who use the public data to minimize the no-value care from Fee for Service will succeed in Value-Based government programs. This is a great example of policy, meeting public data to deliver market value that creates public good." Joshua Rosenthal, PhD, Co-Founder at RowdMap, Inc.
