Voip-Pal.com, Inc. Receives Notice of Allowance for its Third U.S. Lawful Intercept Patent

Voip-Pal is Taking Steps to Monetize its Patent Suite. “The Meter has Been Running Since 2010,” says CEO

BELLEVUE, Wash., July 27, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Voip-Pal.com Inc. (“Voip-Pal”, “Company”) (OTCQB:VPLM) is pleased to announce receipt of the Notice of Allowance from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the Company’s “Intercepting Voice Over IP Communications and Other Data Communications,” Application No. 14/802,929.  This is Voip-Pal’s third Lawful Intercept (LI) patent and its thirteenth overall.

Voip-Pal believes that its Lawful Intercept patents could prove to be a vital tool for law enforcement in its efforts to fight crime and prevent terror attacks. This technology provides the means for judicially authorized covert intercept of any form of communications sent via VoIP, including voice calls, media, and messaging. Messaging is of particular significance, since it represents a dramatically growing sector of VoIP communication. Last year, industry experts estimated that Americans were sending/receiving more than five times as many texts as phone calls each day.

Voip-Pal’s original 2007 Lawful Intercept patent recognized the growing need for lawful intercept of IP-based communications.  In the ensuing years, a number of industry giants have attempted to develop similar technology.  For example, in 2009, two years after Voip-Pal’s patent was filed, Microsoft tried, unsuccessfully, to file a similar patent.

Voip-Pal’s lawful intercept patents represents a small part of its suite of thirteen U.S. and five international patents focusing on IP-based communication.

CEO, Emil Malak stated, “We began building this patent portfolio thirteen and half years ago. We are continuing to expand and strengthen our worldwide patent suite. While the patents are not yet monetized, the meter has been running since 2010 for those infringing on our technology. We appreciate the patience of our shareholders as we continue to fight until we receive proper compensation for our fundamental technology.”

In that regard, Voip-Pal’s legal and technological teams are in the process of replying to two petitions for Inter Partes Review (IPR) filed by Unified Patents and Apple. “We are confident we will prevail in both cases,” said Mr Malak.
