These checkups are recommended for both adults and children in order spot emerging problems early on. As with other medical issues, early detection allows for faster treatment and greatly improves the chance of a favorable outcome.
Every year, people have a variety of health-related checkups. General wellness physicals, eye exams, biannual dental checkups, and similar procedures are common. However, Cahill Back & Neck Care Center says that many people do not pay enough attention to their spines. This can allow painful problems to arise or get worse when they could have been prevented with early chiropractic intervention.
"The spine is more than just some bones that help people stand up straight. It is the main trunk line for the body's nerves, and these nerves can be blocked or wrongly triggered when the spine isn't in alignment or otherwise has problems. The problems caused by the interference with the nerves are often then relayed to the parts of the body connected to them. This causes pain, muscle weakness, and other disabilities. In children, chiropractors pay extra attention to the possibility of scoliosis, which is an improper left-to-right curvature of the spine. Left untreated, it can be painful or even crippling. Children's annual checkups also include evaluating for other problems with spinal development as well as for injuries to the spine from things like falling or being tackled during play.
While there is plenty of emphasis on children's spinal health in some areas, adult checkups are often overlooked. This, Dr. Stinson says, is a dangerous mindset. Adult spines have been subjected to many more years of wear and chances of injury, so they too need to be looked at on a yearly basis.
Most of the time, problems can be relieved by using standard chiropractic treatments. Chiropractors also provide more advanced non-surgical treatments when needed.
