Karl Strauss Re-Releases Two GABF Medal-Winning Small Batch Beers for Labor Day

San Diego, CA, Aug. 22, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

Two of Karl Strauss Brewing Company’s medal-winning small batch beers will be making a much anticipated return this September. Queen of Tarts Dark Sour Ale will be released on draft, and Liquid A/C English Summer Ale will hit the market on draft as well as in cans. Both brews were awarded medals at last year’s Great American Beer Festival.

The 2016 Great American Beer Festival marked a huge milestone for Karl Strauss. Not only did the company take home 4 medals at the competition, but they were also honored with the coveted “Mid-Size Brewing Company of the Year” award.

While two of the four beers that medaled – Mosaic Session IPA and Windansea Wheat – are year-round offerings in the Karl Strauss portfolio, the other two medal-winners were limited releases brewed out of the company’s small batch program. Queen of Tarts, a barrel-aged Dark Sour brewed with Michigan tart cherries, took home gold in the highly competitive American-style Sour Ale category. Liquid A/C, brewed at the company’s satellite brewery in La Jolla, was awarded a bronze in the English-style Summer Ale category.

“After the Great American Beer Festival last year everyone wanted to try these beers, but as with all limited releases, they were gone rather quickly. Ever-rotating brews are part of the beauty of our small batch program, but it also means that many people didn’t get the chance to try Queen of Tarts or Liquid A/C. So as we prepare for this year’s GABF, we felt it was the perfect time to bring back some of our favorites in celebration of last year’s wins.” –Matt Johnson, Brewmaster, Karl Strauss Brewing Company

After the success of Liquid A/C’s draft-only release earlier this summer, Karl Strauss decided to brew another batch of this crisp, refreshing brew and release it in cans just in time for Labor Day. The Queen of Tarts release has been in the works for a while, as the brew has been aging in American Oak barrels for 6 months now. This new batch has aged to perfection and she’s finally ready to make her post-gold medal debut.

With both of these limited release beers back on the KARL line-up at the same time, the company will be offering specialty 2016 GABF Flights over Labor Day weekend starting Friday, September 1st so fans can enjoy all 4 winners from last year’s competition.
