SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF), will bring together leaders in tech, government and the military for “The Next Chapter: Veterans in the New American Workforce,” a panel discussion in San Francisco, Feb. 27. The event will encourage a thoughtful exchange of diverse ideas focused on how today’s veterans can help solve the challenges being faced by businesses and communities in San Francisco and beyond.
“Today’s military is highly educated, diverse and mission-driven,” says Anne Marie Dougherty, executive director of BWF. “As the job market changes and technology provides new opportunities, the American business community has a unique opportunity to harness veterans’ cross-functional skillsets. Our panel looks forward to discussing the interplay between the military, tech and the workforce, and to offer insight into how leading companies are actively engaging transitioning veterans.”
Taking place at Terra Gallery on 511 Harrison Street, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., the panel will be moderated by Bob Woodruff, ABC News correspondent and BWF co-founder. High-profile speakers include George P. Shultz, former U.S. Secretary of State; retired U.S. Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, 18th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; David Krane, CEO and managing partner of GV; Angela Glover Blackwell, CEO of PolicyLink; Loree Draude, head of Ads Help and Education at Facebook, and a ground-breaking former naval aviator; Lori Ann Ospina, the director of the Stockton Economic Empowerment Demonstration; and Ann Weeby, director of Workforce Innovation at Salesforce.
“Many of our panelists are veterans themselves,” added Dougherty. “Their experiences will shape and inform a dialogue that bridges the military and technology sectors to offer solutions to veteran employment in the Bay Area, and beyond.”
The panel discussion will also look ahead to “Stand Up for Heroes,” BWF’s first-ever West Coast fundraiser. The benefit concert will honor impacted post-9/11 veterans and feature top comedians and musicians, at The Masonic San Francisco, May 17.
