Afternoon Tea Hosted at the Century-old Historic Clearwater Building

CLEARWATER, Fla., June 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On Saturday, June 23rd the Scientology Information Center hosted a high tea party for a local social group at the Historic Clearwater Building in downtown Clearwater. The 100 year-old historic Clearwater Building was purchased by the Church of Scientology in 1975. Built in 1918, the property originally served as the Bank of Clearwater. On July 15th, 2015, it was re-opened to the public as the Scientology Information Center.

There was a diverse social group of retired men and women from Ireland, Ecuador, Germany, and Thailand and across the U.S. in attendance. The Center’s conference room was transformed with flowers, matching bone china tea cups and saucers, ivory satin tablecloths and classical music for the event.

The guests enjoyed a spread of English teas, finger sandwiches, clotted cream and fresh home-made scones while socializing. During the event they had the opportunity to speak to Ms. Amber Skjelset – the Center’s Manager and event organizer - who answered their questions about the Church of Scientology, its history in Clearwater and L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology’s Founder.  Several commented how “fascinating” the information was. One guest remarked, “I didn’t realize that L. Ron Hubbard had lived in Clearwater!”.

The Center will host its next tea party event on Saturday, August 4th at 3pm. The Information Center is located at 500 Cleveland Street in Downtown Clearwater. The Center is open seven days a week, from 10am to 10pm. No appointment is necessary to visit.

“The Information Center has two unique roles,” said Ms. Skjelset. “It’s here to answer questions for those curious about Scientology and it serves as a gathering place for community meetings and events. In addition to tea parties - we also host receptions for social and non-profit groups, musical events and theatrical performances for the general public. We believe that reaching out and getting to know one another makes a stronger community.”
