Scapa Healthcare Granted European Patent for New Hydrocolloid Adhesive Composition

Formulated with Natural Oils that Support Skin Hydration

WINDSOR, Conn., Aug. 23, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Scapa Healthcare, a global strategic outsource partner of skin friendly turn-key solutions, has been granted a European patent for a hydrocolloid adhesive composition featuring coconut oil, which promotes skin moisturization. Scapa’s adhesive composition is fully moldable and can support the topical delivery of active ingredients that may aid in the healing or skin conditioning process.

Unlike silicone adhesives, the patented hydrocolloid design also incorporates a water absorbent to actively absorb and gently transport sweat and moisture away from the skin. The new adhesive is also gamma stable, which means it can be used in devices that are gamma sterilized versus silicone adhesives that can only be sterilized with EtO.

“The medical adhesives market continues to evolve and adapt to the latest market needs,” said Michael Muchin, Scapa Healthcare’s VP of Product Development. “At Scapa Healthcare, we strive to remain at the forefront in offering our customers the most innovative compositions for skin-contact applications.”

The hydrocolloid’s skin friendly technology makes it an optimal fit for skin fixation devices, wound dressings, ostomy fixation devices and for ailments like second-degree burns, pressure ulcers and superficial wounds where moisture management and skin hydration are recommended.
