Quad Cities Orthopaedic Surgeon Leads Ecuador Medical Mission

Dr. Tyson Cobb of Orthopaedic Specialists, PC is bringing a team of medical professionals to care for underserved patients in Ecuador, providing pro bono treatment of upper extremity conditions and diseases.

DAVENPORT, Iowa, Sept. 11, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In an effort to provide medical treatment to Ecuadorians in need, Dr. Tyson Cobb and team headed to Milagros in August 2018 to perform surgical care on underserved patients as part of Medical Ministry International’s (MMI) global missions. The Quad Cities orthopaedic surgeon and his team contributed their expertise in hand, wrist, and upper extremity procedures to individuals of all ages.

From August 3 – 8, Dr. Cobb and team had the opportunity to assist children, teens, and adults in Milagros who would otherwise have limited or no access to the procedures they need to lead full, productive lives. The mission included four scheduled days of surgery using equipment, medication, and supplies donated through MMI’s philanthropic efforts. The cost of transportation, food, and lodging was raised through generous gifts from those supporting the trip; the amount raised was then matched by Orthopaedic Specialists.

This will be Dr. Cobb’s second medical mission to Ecuador, and he has also traveled to Trinidad as part of a mission to teach local physicians advanced techniques in hand and upper extremity surgery. Dr. Cobb and his team have been recognized for their commitment to patient care both locally and internationally.

Dr. Cobb’s team is proud to donate their time and training to such an important and worthy cause, and they are grateful to the medical team members who volunteered to assist in Ecuador. Dr. Cobb looks forward to the next opportunity to take part in a mission to assist the less fortunate while reducing pain and dysfunction around the world.
