According to the lawsuit, defendants throughout the Class Period made false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose that: (1) Markel’s subsidiaries did not appropriately record loss reserves; (2) consequently, Markel’s loss reserves would need to be adjusted and/or restated; (3) these misleading accounting practices would lead to regulatory scrutiny and financial loss to investors; and (4) as a result, defendants’ positive statements about Markel’s business, operations, and prospects, were materially misleading and/or lacked a reasonable basis.
