LOS ANGELES, August 21, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) announced today that U.S. Navy Admiral Charles R. Larson, retired, was elected to its board of directors at its meeting held Aug. 16, increasing the board to 12 members.
"Admiral Larson has a unique breadth and depth of experience across the spectrum of military leadership, management and government policy," said Kent Kresa, Northrop Grumman chairman, president and chief executive officer. "He will be an excellent addition to our board and his keen insight into the emerging requirements for our nation's defense will serve our company well."
Adm. Larson served as commander in the Pacific from 1991 to 1994, when he was responsible for 350,000 personnel and the readiness of all U.S. forces in the theater. He was also the U.S. military representative for collective defense arrangements in the Pacific Rim, working with senior officials from 44 countries.
His government experience includes recognition as the first Naval officer selected to be a White House Fellow and Naval aide to a president. He was previously superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy, first from 1983 to 1986, and again from 1994 to 1998. Adm. Larson is currently a consultant on defense, foreign policy and education issues to government and industry.
He is also vice chairman of the board of regents of the University System of Maryland and is chairman of the board of directors of the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation. He serves on the board of directors for Constellation Energy Group, Inc., the White House Fellows Foundation, Edge Technologies, Inc., Fluor Global Services and the Atlantic Council. Adm. Larson is currently a member of the board of advisors for Military.com and the National Academy of Sciences' Committee on International Security and Arms Control. Additionally, he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is a senior fellow of The CNA Corporation.
Adm. Larson's decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, seven Navy Distinguished Service Medals, three Legions of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Navy Commendation and the Navy Achievement Medal.
