Northrop Grumman Sector Names Richard D. Welker Regional Vice President For Taiwan


DALLAS, Jan. 5, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Integrated Systems Sector (ISS) announced today the appointment of Richard D. Welker as regional vice president, Taiwan, for Northrop Grumman International Inc. (NGII).

Mr. Welker is based in Taipei, Taiwan, and will serve as NGII's business development coordinator in the Republic of China. In that capacity, he will assess evolving customer requirements and coordinate with ISS's business areas to formulate and execute marketing strategy.

Northrop Grumman's ISS is the prime contractor for the E-2T Hawkeye Airborne Early Warning & Control aircraft and other high-technology products for the Republic of China's armed forces.

Mr. Welker retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of colonel in 1999. He has spent the majority of his career in the Asia-Pacific region as an Army foreign area officer, specializing in China and Southeast Asia. During his 29-year career, Mr. Welker served in a variety of command and staff positions. Beginning in 1986, he served as Army attaché in the U.S. diplomatic missions in Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia. Since retiring from the Army, Mr. Welker has been chief of the technical liaison section at the American Institute in Taiwan.

Mr. Welker holds a bachelor's degree from Southwest Missouri State University and a master's degree from the University of Arizona. He is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College, Army War College and the British Ministry of Defense Chinese Language School.
