Neoware to offer Windows CE .NET Powered Software for Capio and Eon Products

Windows CE .NET Adds Internet Explorer 5.5, Wireless Support to Neoware's Eon and Capio Windows CE Powered Devices

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Jan. 7, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Neoware Systems (Nasdaq:NWRE), the leading supplier of award-winning software, services, and solutions for the emerging Appliance Computing market, today announced that it will offer new software packages for its broad family of Eon and Capio thin client appliances that include Windows CE .NET, the operating system that powers the next generation of 32-bit, small-footprint devices.

Neoware has been working closely with Microsoft Corp. to develop products based upon the Windows CE .NET operating system and to market them to customers. Windows CE .NET, a robust embedded operating system, delivers the latest wireless and multimedia functionality to enable Neoware to quickly bring to market smart, connected devices for business customers. Windows CE .NET will enable Neoware's thin client appliance customers to fully integrate Microsoft .NET web services computing technologies. Neoware intends to be among the first to deliver a Windows CE .NET-powered thin client appliance to market, building upon Neoware's thin client appliance products which currently support all available Windows Embedded operating systems, including Windows CE 3.0, Windows NT Embedded 4.0, and Windows XP Embedded.

Unique among thin client appliance vendors, Neoware allows its customers to choose from a variety of operating systems on the same hardware platform, enabling them to migrate and upgrade from one thin client operating system to another by simply changing software and adding memory if required. Neoware will offer Windows CE .NET on new Eon and Capio products and as an upgrade to its existing customers, allowing them to gain the benefits of the new operating system without requiring the purchase of new hardware.

Neoware develops its own proprietary software products, which are enhancements to embedded operating systems, making them secure and centrally manageable in network environments. Neoware's software products integrate the latest features and enhancements available from Microsoft, to help customers more quickly gain access to state-of-the-art capabilities. The new Windows CE .NET user interface will make adding Neoware enhancements even simpler, as well as provide increased built-in support for peripherals such as USB devices and smart cards.

Windows CE .NET allows Neoware's customers to connect to servers to run Windows applications using Microsoft RDP or Citrix(r) ICA(r) protocols, connect to the Internet through a built-in Internet Explorer browser, and connect to mainframes and midrange computers via terminal emulation.

All of Neoware's thin client appliances are managed using Neoware's ezRemote Manager software, which is an enterprise-class management tool designed to significantly lower the cost and time associated with administering large networks of thin client appliances. Neoware has also extended the capability of its ezRemote Manager software to manage, upgrade, and configure Windows CE .NET-based products.

"Neoware is committed to offering our customers access to the latest thin client appliance technologies," said Michael Kantrowitz, president and CEO of Neoware. "By introducing new software packages for our Eon and Capio appliances that are powered by Windows CE .NET, we enable our customers to drive down ownership costs by deploying the latest technology without replacing their hardware. With this new software, which incorporates Windows CE .NET, Neoware customers can access virtually any Windows, legacy, or Internet application from a centrally managed appliance, with dramatically lower cost and significantly simplified administration. Even better, our customers can purchase Neoware products today, confident that they can be fully integrated into future technologies like the Microsoft .NET initiative."

"Enterprise customers are looking to implement cost-effective thin client solutions with the most up-to-date technology that easily integrates with their existing network infrastructure," said Keith White, senior director of marketing for the Embedded and Appliance Platforms Group at Microsoft. "With its Eon and Capio devices, Neoware delivers a solution that meets those needs, while taking advantage of Windows CE .NET to deliver rich Internet connectivity, access to applications, and ease of management."
