Neoware Introduces New Fast, Easy, Affordable Capio Thin Client Appliances

New Capio Models Include Business-Critical Capabilities, With Prices Starting at $299

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Feb. 26, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Neoware Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:NWRE), the leading supplier of award-winning software, services, and solutions for the Appliance Computing market, today introduced the newest members of the fast, easy, affordable line of Capio thin client appliances. Neoware's new Capio products set aggressive new price points for thin client appliances, and offer significantly more capability than competitive thin client devices. These new Capio models incorporate the latest Neoware software technologies and are available immediately through the Capio distribution channel worldwide.

Neoware's new Capio 500 and 600 families enable customers to run the latest Windows(r)-based applications from a server without a PC. Capio thin client appliances provide high performance, broad compatibility, superior ease-of-use, small footprint, and the lowest possible total cost of ownership, all at low prices designed to save money. Beginning at a street price of $299, the entry-level Capio models are the first thin clients from an industry leader to provide all of the features and capabilities required by enterprise customers. Standard capabilities of the new Capio models include a fast 300MHz processor; up to 1280x1024 screen resolution; windowed connections to boost user productivity; an internal power supply with no external "brick" to save space and improve reliability; a rugged metal casing that can be placed next to or under a monitor; serial, parallel, and PS/2 ports for legacy connectivity; two USB ports; and audio for multimedia applications.

The new Capio thin clients are compatible with Microsoft Windows Terminal Services and Citrix(r) MetaFrame(r) software. All Capio 500 and 600 models support Citrix Independent Computing Architecture (ICA(r)) and let users run the latest Windows-based applications from a server, without the administrative and overhead costs associated with personal computers. In addition, Capio 500 and 600 models offer scalable functionality to meet various users needs, including the Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), and Capio 600 models are available with a wide range of terminal emulations and the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser for connection to Windows, UNIX, MetaFrame servers, and Web-based applications.

The new Capio models, as well as all other Neoware products, are managed using Neoware's ezRemote Manager software, an enterprise-class suite of tools designed to dramatically lower the cost of managing thin client appliances. This powerful software allows administrators to discover, configure, and upgrade any appliance on a network without traveling from desk to desk. Individual appliances can be locked down and secured from user changes, further minimizing administrative and technical support costs. Neoware's ezRemote Manager lets administrators discover every thin client appliance on the network, view and change the configuration of each appliance, and save this information in a database, enabling total life cycle management and driving administrative costs down. The Full Advantage Service Package, standard on most models, includes Neoware's ezRemote Manager Enterprise Edition.

Addressing the concerns of customers whose needs simply are not met by the competition, the new Capio family offers more features at the same or lower prices than competitive products, an end-to-end Microsoft solution with a lower total cost of ownership than competitive products, and lower acquisition cost than competitive products. In addition, the Capio 600 Series fits perfectly into Microsoft's .NET strategy. Should customers want to take advantage of Microsoft .NET and Web-based services, Neoware allows them to simply upgrade existing units to Windows CE .NET, to obtain support of key Microsoft .NET technologies such as Internet Explorer 5.5 and XML without the purchase of new hardware.

"Neoware's new Capio models represent an entirely new price point for our industry and are the first thin client appliances from a leading supplier with the features that customers actually need and want," stated Michael Kantrowitz, president and CEO of Neoware Systems. "Unlike other thin clients in this price range, Neoware's new Capio models offer the latest hardware and software technologies, and include business-critical features such as a modern hardware design with the latest microprocessors, serial and parallel ports, high-resolution video, the reliability of an internal power supply, and audio for today's multimedia applications. Now that Neoware is supplying these innovative, new Capio models, customers no longer need to choose obsolete, outdated thin client technology to get industry-leading prices."

"Citrix is pleased to work with Neoware to ensure the compatibility of the Capio 500 and 600 with Citrix application serving environments," said Garry Olah, director, corporate development, partner and developer community for Citrix. "Neoware's new Capio models let customers take full advantage of Citrix MetaFrame including seamless windows, remote audio and remote device support. The Capio is an excellent choice for customers seeking a cost-effective device for server-based computing."

Neoware's Capio Series are available immediately worldwide from over 300 Neoware resellers at a starting U.S. street price of $299 and an estimated European street price of Euro 435.
