MALMO, Sweden, Nov. 1, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Teleca (Stockholm:TELCb) and Ericsson have finalised an outsourcing agreement where Ericsson's Norwegian GPRS development activities are transferred to Teleca. On September 25, Teleca and Ericsson signed a letter of intent to enter the outsourcing agreement, which has now been finalised.
As part of the agreement, 70 employees are transferred from Ericsson to a new Teleca subsidiary in Norway, Teleca Wireless Solutions AS. The agreement is part of Teleca's strategy to grow in the Nordic region and to expand the outsourcing business.
The new subsidiary will offer Ericsson a variety of development services within GPRS/3G. Teleca also intends to expand the business to include projects within GPRS based communications, GPRS roll-out, 3G, mobile Internet etc. Targeted customers are primarily international operators and suppliers within the market segments Telecom, Automotive and Consumer Electronics.
"We have a great potential, with Norway as a base, in offering a variety of GPRS/3G services to operators and suppliers around the world. The agreement has been made possible through Teleca's strong position in the market for outsourced R&D," saids Nick Stammers, CEO of Teleca. "The agreement is important because it will increase Teleca's strength in the Nordic region and further increase our competence in the global market for GPRS and 3G."
The unit is very highly ranked for its competence, performance and motivation, and has an experienced management with a proven track record.

Teleca expects the outsourcing agreement to have a positive effect on Teleca's earnings and, by efficiency measures and cooperation with new customers, reach normal Teleca margins within two years. The results from the new subsidiary will be consolidated with Teleca from November 1, 2002.
