HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 9, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Worldwide industrial services and products company Harsco Corporation (NYSE:HSC) announced today that its Heckett MultiServ division will assume additional mill services responsibilities at Arcelor's Sollac Florange steel works in northeast France under a multi-year contract renewal and expansion valued at more than $7 million over its duration, effectively doubling the previous contract revenues.
Arcelor is the largest steel group in the world and one of Heckett MultiServ's largest customers. The division supports more than 20 Arcelor mills in Europe and Latin America.
Heckett MultiServ has been providing mill services at the Florange works since 1983. During that time, its responsibilities have grown to include on-site scrap processing, slab oxycutting, and Androfer scarfing, a proprietary process that uses automated flame technology to remove surface blemishes from high-finish steel slabs.
Under the latest contract renewal, Heckett MultiServ will expand its scrap processing responsibilities to include on-site scrap baling services and the oxycutting of steel coils employing an environmentally compliant fume collection system developed by Heckett MultiServ. The division's added responsibilities are scheduled to begin in October 2003 and are forecast to generate positive Economic Value Added (EVA(r)) from their first year of operation.
The largest of Harsco's four operating groups, Heckett MultiServ is the world's leading provider of specialized outsourced mill services to the steel and metals industries. The division operates under long-term, renewable contracts at more than 150 mills worldwide.
