Herbie Hancock -- Modern Music Icon -- Among Panelists at Global Mobile 2003; Visionary in World Culture, Technology, Business and Music to Share Insights on Mobile Music Opportunities, Applications and Challenges

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 16, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Eight-time Grammy Award winner Herbie Hancock will be among the experts and visionaries setting the course for the mobile communications industry at Global Mobile 2003, taking place in San Diego, California, September 24-26. More than 100 CEOs, VPs and senior executives from around the world are confirmed to speak over two days of keynote addresses, interactive panel discussions, product demonstrations, exhibitions, and networking parties. For more information and to register, visit www.sms.ac/globalmobile.

Hancock, among the latest additions to the Global Mobile 2003 agenda, will participate on the panel titled "Content to Mobile Phones," taking place on Thursday, September 25, at 11:10 a.m. The panel is designed to address the opportunities and challenges associated with the delivery of content, including music, to wireless devices.

"Music distribution as a revenue generator during the Internet frenzy was a missed opportunity for the music industry," said Hancock. "However, the prospect of delivering music and related content to mobile devices represents a shot at redemption-it's a great new means for artists to reach out and touch fans around the world in ways that were never before possible. The potential marketing impact is amazing. However, producers, artists, labels, publishers and service providers will have to apply the lessons learned online to fully capitalize on the potential."

Hancock is just one of several recently added highlights to Global Mobile 2003. Based on attendee input, another session was placed on the agenda this week. Entitled "Getting Into the Game," the panel will explore how companies can generate revenue through mobile communications. Panel participants include Simon Bilsberry, CEO of Kineticom, Inc. and Mehdi Mahdavi, CEO and founder of Telematics Technologies.

Other newly confirmed panelists include: Paul Whitaker, manager of the Nokia Developers Network, speaking on mobile gaming; Alex Meisl, co-founder of Sponge Interactive, on creating success for mobile applications; and both Marc Vanlerberghe, CEO of Quios, and Vinay Chandra, CEO and founder of Trinity Solutions USA, on mobile marketing. "The excitement for Global Mobile 2003 is building with each and every day," said Michael Pousti, chairman and chief executive officer at SMS.ac, Inc. (www.sms.ac). "This conference will be jam-packed with valuable insight and networking. The range of speakers and topics will ensure there is something for everyone -- from wireless operators and data service providers to handset manufacturers and application developers. And it's going to be a great deal of fun, San Diego-style."

Wednesday night's opening "Always Connected" networking party will set the energy for the event at level ten with a performance by musical group Lapdog (former members of the superstar band, Toad the Wet Sprocket). Delicious food and Samuel Adams beer, the "Official Beer of Global Mobile 2003," is also on-tap for party attendees. A second "Always Connected" networking party on Thursday will feature renowned singer-songwriter Rick Monroe and his band. Both parties, as well as food and beverages, are included in the registration fee.

For Global Mobile 2003 participants who want to remain always connected during the event, key areas of the conference center will be WiFi-enabled and outfitted with laptops provided by Laptops Plus, the "Official Technology Solutions Provider of Global Mobile 2003."
